A 13-year-old boy is set to become one of the country’s youngest fathers after his 14-year-old girlfriend became pregnant.
The two children, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, attend the same school.
But the girl, who is several months pregnant, is in the year above the boy.
It is the latest in a history of under-age pregnancies in Poole, Dorset.
In 1997, Jenny Teague became the country’s youngest mother when she gave birth, aged 12, to daughter Sasha.
Two years later, sisters Charlene, 17, and Miranda Way, 15, from Poole gave birth within months of each other.
The local authority has obtained a court order to stop the children in the latest case being identified.
Sean Stewart became Britain’s youngest known father when, in 1998, at the age of just 12, his nextdoor neighbour Emma Webster, 15, gave birth to their baby in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire.
Earlier this year, another 13-year-old, Alfie Patten, from Eastbourne in East Sussex, was believed to have become a father after 15-year-old Chantelle Stedman conceived.
But DNA tests later showed that another 15-year-old was the father.
Earlier this year, Alfie Patten was believed to have become a father at 13 but the baby turned out not to be his
Teenage pregnancies are now at their highest for a decade.
And pregnancies among girls under 16 – below the age of consent – are also at their highest since 1998.
The Government has tried to cut teenage pregnancies by handing out free contraceptives and expanding sex education.
Most pregnancies among girls under 18 end in abortion.
Of about 40,000 pregnancies last year, more than 20,000 were terminated – the first time more had chosen this option than became mothers.
Abortions for teenagers have gone up by more than a quarter since Labour came to power in 1997.
Last year, the total number abortions in England and Wales topped 200,000 for the first time.

What disturbs me is, how, the authorities, try to cover their identities. Why do it?? These children go against, adult advice,
insisting that they are old enough, mature enough and wise enough, to engage in sexual intercourse.
The result of sex is a pregnancy.
If the children want to play adult games, then, I believe their identities should not be shielded.
After all , it will become pretty evident that a girl is pregnant, after a few months, and 9 months later she will be pushing her
baby around in a push chair.

I think teenage pregnancy is disgustin , and if your daughter as a baby at a young age it just make’s you look like a a low life , Its obviouse your parent’s dont care about their children , They should tell their daughter they cant have the child as she is too young , or mabye put the child up for adoption , , And as goas for they boys, use protection , or keep it in your trousers , Parents need to do more talk to their children as often as you can about protection and sex although they dont like it, If you dont like what i have said then add me on msn , or please write back to me on plaiboi101@hotmail.co.uk , but we are all entitled to our own oppion and that is mine , all im sayin is would you want your 12 year old daughter son , havin a daughter or a son , when there still being looked after by there parents i dont think it is fair the baby wouldnt get a proper looking after , it should be law not to have children under a certain age

The correct term is statutory rape.
having sex with either gender under the age of 16 is a crime, funny though the police do not prosecute because “its not in the pubilic interest” the female at 14 is too young to consent to sex and the boy is a child of 13. the parents of both should be prosecuted for child endangerment and the offspring should be taken intoocare and forcibly given up for adoption…

If thats your solution, then a whole lot of babies will be in care, and not enough parents. the mothers who gave birth to them will get depressed because, despite your belief, they will and do care about thier child; its instinct. the will miss and pine and beg for thier child baack, then the gov says no, they lash out and go for another one.
its not going to help

I can’t people my age ( im 13 ) would want to have a baby ,, or sex . The joy of being a child is freedom and not having to care for something , having a baby underage means you lose your freedom and have to care for something.
I do want kids but I want to be at least 22 when I do!!
It’s just disgusting what teens get up too!

i blame the parents for neglect. They obviously havent got a clue what their children are up to, and if they do then they should be punished for allowing such things. What is the country coming to,.

Admittedly, I was one of these many kids who engage in sex in what is considered ‘too young’, but I was careful about it and I had what I’d consider a pretty respectable relationship at the time. I don’t regret it to this day but I’m pretty much a big hypocrite and hate the idea of anyone else having underage sex. I think getting pregnant under the age of like.. 25, is just a waste, and I know for a fact, if my mum was really young, I’d be really embarrassed of it :l

Well I am 13 and someone my age getting someone pregnant.. Well thats wrong, yeah but they should hand out more birth control stuff such as Condoms, Pills and stuff. If Britain want less Teen Pregnancy more Protection must be given out and more Sex Education about Diseases, Pregnancy and How to be safe. The Goverment should also influence teens not too have sex.

He has ruined his life. Because now, instead of blasting zombies on the computer or playing footie, he’ll be nursing his baby. He’ll be up all night, with night feeds and crying and nappy changes. The two best options, really, are to when the baby is born, give him / her up for adoption, or have the girl’s parent’s book the girl an appointment to have an abortion at a doctors.

where in the hell are the parents of these 12 year olds that are getting pregnant and getting girls pregnant, I have 5 children, 4 girls and 1 boy my oldest 2 are 17 and 14 and I still know where they are and what they are doing while they are out,, if they dont tell me where they are going they dont go out its simple as that, these parent need to start being parents and take control and bring their children up the way they ought to be brought up, not letting them run riot.

Breaking the law IS a crime. Punishment should apply.
The family of these so young kids ought to be made “to pay” for All costs in taking care of the new ‘comer’ if the child’s pregnancy is not being made terminated, or abortion, and this is, virtually, my opinion.
In no case, should the general public be helping or feel sorry and having to pay for ‘that’.
It is entirely a problem with the totally irresponsible parents, where ‘action’ should be ‘severely’ taken by the Authority, so the Police to step in! – will the full use of taking it as a given ‘example’ to a New regime in the true lacking of such a ‘system’ – This would potentially improve and re-direct people’s mind, to a more positive, definitively educative to both Parents and kids in all publicly eyes. – And ‘kids’ would probably not want so much to be playing much mummies and daddies, if rules apply. As for now, it is all too much contradictive. This ought to be stopped ‘now’ – or we will be faced, (with so much publicity and encouragements in a sense) with a continuing growing numbers! – Just like the development of drugs!
What is annoying me the most is; not only there is a strong ‘evidence’ in the ‘disregarding’ in the standing of the Law (under 16) is = NO Sex. – In another hand, there you have it ‘Condoms’ freely made available for (young kids) anyway! – Who is there doing something terribly wrong? – It is honestly a bit like ‘drug’ rightly so is ‘illegal’ but, here you have it, the ‘pusher’ who says “Here you can have some!” – It is made too, available! –
If this country is a mess, well, the chances are, if ‘action’ is not taken now, this will get worse!

I don’t think it is the parents fault entirly.
I’m 15 years of age, and the majority of the boys and girls of my age are going round behind their parents backs having sex.
Pretending their just going out to play footy, or to a party etc.
It is disgusting and wrong.
If anyone is to blame, its no the parents.

I’m a young mum, got pregnant at 16, gave birth at 17.
I finished that year in college, got equivilant of 3 b’s and an a, and intend on returning after a year out. I was working until 7 months, and now my baby boy is 5 months old. I love him so much and cant imagine life without him.
However, I am not saying its ok. If I didnt know that both my parents and his parents would be there to help no matter what if needed, and I thought that I wasnst mature enough, or if I didnt know where the next pay check was coming in, or if I didnt know if my partner would stick around, I wouldnt of kept danny. Many teenagers who have children end up sumping it on thier parents, which we are not.
The majority of people believe that its a horrendous thing and only look at the failures, not the successes. I’m coping fine, doing it all on my own, and I love it.

I know some people are sayin that the parents of the kid should hav arranged an appointment for an abortion but if they had done that they would hav committed murder and is that any diffrent from killing an actual person because the way i see it havin an abortion is ending someone’s life before it has even begun.

i thought i’d leave my view as some of the views on here seem a little blunt and without thought (and oddly the so called voices of reason don’t seem to be able to spell better than children themselves which i couldn’t help but pick up on and wonder what it says about them !)
i had a great deal of respect for my parents as a child and they did their best to guide me, but it didn’t stop me feeling ready for a physical relationship with my long term boyfriend at the age of 15, my mothers view was that it is impossible to stop a teenager from having sex because they will just do it in secret so it is far better to try to protect them from pregnancy / infection etc when the time comes and to know that they are safe and who they are with. i myself settled down with someone at 17 moved in and i had my first child at 18, i personally was ready for that and my partner was 24 at the time , i am now 31 married, own my own 5 bed house and have the old traditional lifestyle that i always wanted , my husband earns the money which he feels is his role and i take care of our 3 children (with number 4 on the way !) i wouldn’t change a thing and would still like to adopt a child in the future.
to all the people saying that these babies should be forcibly taken into care and adopted , i’m not sure that you have put enough thought into that childs welfare, not all children taken into care get adopted especially the non white british in england as they tend to only adopt children into families reflecting that childs racial heritage, these children aren’t so easy to place, i know this as i have applied to adopt myself . not all placements are happy , the children can grow up with all sorts of questions and issues that wouldn’t arise if they hadn’t been adopted, the most typical being the feelings of worthlessness and the “why didn’t my parents love me ” questions all of this can make a psychological impact on that child, don’t get me wrong adoption can be a fantastic thing when in the best interest of a child but you have to ask yourself “is youth of the parents a good enough reason if the parents have family support?”
i think in this country we are too quick to just kill unwanted fetus’s and more should be done to discourage teens from having sex in the first place, it is all over tv these days in many shows that children watch, the soaps are constantly full of it along with many rediculous storylines, lots of which include teens , it is being made normal and commonplace, maybe with a little less attitude and sexual exposure on tv we might not have such a problem !
for the record my son is 13 now and i’m pretty confident that he has been taught common sense and is educated enough and doesn’t even think about that kind of thing yet !
but i would like to point out that it IS NOT always the fault of the parents !

It’s simply amazing how almost none of the people making comments can spell worth a damn.
I don’t the law over there “across the pond”, but in the US, the age of consent in most states is 16. You’re not legally considered an adult until age 18.
It seems like a problem of epidemic proportions that so many 12-15 year olds are having sexual relations and producing children. Maybe the parents of these teens don’t know any better, maybe they were teen parents themselves and that’s considered “normal”. Personally, I don’t think I’d want to be a grandmother at the age of 30. I’m 45 and I don’t yet have grandchildren. Maybe I did something right so that my sons decided to wait to procreate. I was married, and had my oldest son, at nineteen. I could have become a grandmother at (using the ages of the teens in this post) the earliest, 33 years of age. That’s a scary thought!
There needs to be either tougher laws to prevent this from happening, or better sex education… but the bottom line is, teenagers are going to experiment with their sexuality whether we like it or not.

People seem to think that teenage pregnancy is a new thing! The only difference between now and 10, 50, 100 years ago is that now, when a young girl becomes pregnant, it makes the Evening News and it makes a Top Blog on WordPress.
My family has several stories of teenagers having babies. So many years ago, kids got married in their teens. And to think that unmarried teenagers didn’t have sex “way back when”? Just ask your grandparents. I can only imagine the stories they’d tell–IF they are honest with you.
When I was in highschool 20 years ago, there were pregnant freshmen IE 14 years old or so. At that time, it was the business of that girl’s family and the school only got involved to help her finish the school year since she couldn’t attend school after her pregnancy began to show.
As a mother of two teenage boys, I would be the first to jump in and try to educate and, bribe, cajole, threaten, etc., if neccessary, to prevent kids from having sex too young, and especially unprotected sex. But to think that kids have more sex today than so many years ago–that may be a bit naive.
Today, people just broadcast WAAAY more.

So what do we think is going on here? These kids are having sex because their parents were open and honest with them about it and the kid went out and did it based on right information from Mom and Dad? Or do we think these parents didn’t talk to their kids about sex and the kids made a mistake on their own?
Educating your child about sex is one of those core parenting decisions.

I’ve known about this situation for several months already; the baby has been born, and after a DNA test, it was shown he was not the father. A lie detector test revealed that they had not, in fact, ever had sex, which means the boy couldn’t have been the father in any case.
In the future, you should check your sources.
